Biography
Born: Monongahela, PA, 1983
Born and raised in the Mon Valley, Lauren Brown comes from deeply rooted working-class values. One grandfather spent his entire career in the coal mines, and the other in a steel mill—giving her a firsthand view of the physical toll that hard labor can take. Watching the long-term impact on their health, she developed a strong conviction that the law should work for the people who build our communities—the way it was intended to.
As the daughter of a Western Pennsylvania private practice healthcare provider, she also had a front-row seat to the challenges medical professionals face, particularly when it comes to getting paid by insurance companies. She saw how often providers had to fight simply to be reimbursed for the care they gave. That perspective has fueled her passion for not only advocating for injured workers but also helping healthcare providers navigate the complex and often frustrating workers’ compensation system. She has spent her entire career fighting for the “little guy” and approaches every case with dogged advocacy for the truth.
Before becoming an attorney, Ms. Brown spent over a decade working as a reporter and producer for local television stations, where she was committed to uncovering the truth, amplifying unheard voices, and holding the powerful accountable. In the final years of her journalism career, she produced an in-depth series on the nation’s broken healthcare system—once again placing her at the center of the complex world of medical billing and insurance challenges.
Her investigative work earned her numerous accolades, including multiple Edward R. Murrow Awards as well as regional Emmy Awards and nominations. Over the course of her first career, she traveled the country covering high-profile murder trials—such as the Casey Anthony and George Zimmerman cases—national political campaigns, and investigations into consumer fraud and government misconduct.
After years on the road, Ms. Brown returned home to Western Pennsylvania to raise her family and pursue her second career in law, where she now applies her investigative instincts and passion for justice to advocating for injured workers and the healthcare providers who treat them.
Prior to joining Yablonski, Costello & Leckie, she worked with the consumer protection teams in the Pennsylvania and West Virginia Attorneys General offices. In these roles, she helped consumers seek justice through regulatory and legal channels when faced with unfair and deceptive business practices. Her work included investigating complaints, supporting enforcement actions, and advocating for individuals who had been misled, overcharged, or otherwise taken advantage of by companies violating consumer protection laws.
Additionally, while working in the Pittsburgh office of a mid-sized, full-service Mid-Atlantic regional law firm, she contributed to several federal discrimination and harassment cases brought against employers, further deepening her commitment to standing up for individuals whose rights have been violated.
She continues to freelance for The New York Times, earning a front-page byline for her coverage of a devastating Florida hurricane and contributing local insight to the paper’s presidential election reporting.
Above all, Mrs. Brown is a proud wife and mother of two. Family is the foundation of everything she does, personally and professionally. She understands firsthand the challenges working families face—whether it’s navigating a complex healthcare system, dealing with an injury on the job, or simply trying to make ends meet while doing the right thing. Her commitment to justice, fairness, and advocacy is deeply rooted in her desire to build a better future not just for her own children, but for all families who contribute to their communities and deserve to be treated with dignity. Whether she’s in the courtroom, meeting with clients, or spending time at home, her work is always guided by that core belief.
